Carl R. Garr, 85, of Wyomissing, passed away February 11, 2013 in The Reading Hospital and Medical Center.
His wife, Arlene C. (Crawford) Garr, died August 4, 2000.
Born in Olean, NY, he was a son of the late Frederick Heinrich and Mary Magdalene (Zimmerman) Garr.
He earned his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Kent State University and earned his PhD from Case Western Reserve University.
Carl was a Nuclear Physicist with the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, an Executive V.P. with ACF Industries, the President of Polymer Corporation and retired as the Chairman of the Board for the Bank of PA.
He was also active as a director of Carpenter Technology Corporation, as a Trustee for the Reading Hospital and served on the board for Kutztown University, Caron Foundation and Dauphin Deposit Corp.
Carl was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Reading.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in WWII.
Carl is survived by his three daughters: Chris, wife of Rick Weber; Anne, wife of Ed Shields and Betsy, wife of Stu Reese. Also surviving are his brother, Phillip Garr; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in First Presbyterian Church, 37 S. 5th St., Reading. A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. in the church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Shillington.
