C. Malcolm Smith, Jr., 83, of Reading and Sun City Hilton Head SC, died of natural causes February 23 at 1:13 p.m. in The Carolina Coastal Medical Center of Hardeeville, SC, where he had been for one day.
He was the husband of Mary B.(Barush) Smith.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late C. Malcolm Smith, Sr. and Agnes R. (McCarton) Smith.
Smith was employed as a Certified Public Accountant, serving as partner for the firm Bach, Smith & Bach, Reading from 1953 to 1965. In 1965, the name of the company was changed to C. Malcolm Smith & Company; the company remained in Reading. In 1990, C. Malcolm Smith & Company merged with Kuntz, Lesher, Siegrist & Martini with offices in Lancaster and Wyomissing. Smith retired in 1992.
He was a 1941 graduate of Reading High School. He was also a graduate of McCann School of Business and LaSalle Extension University.
Smith was a Navy veteran of World War II.
He was a member of the Reading Lodge #549 F&AM, a 32nd degree Mason in the Ancient Accepted Order of the Scottish Rite and a Noble of the Rajah Shrine.
Smith was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Reading. He is survived by three daughters, Barbara (Smith) Logero and Patricia (Smith) Snyder both of Wyomissing; and Michelle (Smith) Bigos, West Lawn. There is also one son C. Malcolm, III, Wyomissing.
There are ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Reading. Entombment in Gethsemane Mausoleum. Friends and relatives may call Monday evening 6:30-8:30 p.m. and Tuesday 8:30-9:30 a.m., both in the Kuhn Funeral Home, West Reading.
