Bruce R. Seidel

Bruce R. Seidel Sr., ex-borough official Bruce R. Seidel Sr., a former West Reading official, died April 30 at 10:50 p.m. in the Highlands at Wyomissing Skilled Nursing Unit, where he had resided since Tuesday.

Seidel, 88, of Joan Terrace, was predeceased by his wife, Miriam H. (Hannahoe) Seidel, on Jan. 26, 2003.

He was a member of West Reading Borough Council from 1962 to1970.

Seidel was a member of the West Reading Board of Recreation from 1954 to 1961 and of the executive committee of the West Reading Board of Trade from 1960 to 1970.

Born in West Reading, he was a son of the late Harry and Emma (Zuber) Seidel.

Seidel was employed for 41 years by Textile Machine Works and Rockwell International, Wyomissing, retiring as manager of safety and security in 1975.

He was a 1932 graduate of Wyomissing High School and a 1934 graduate of Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute with an associate degree in mechanical engineering.

He was a volunteer driver for the American Red Cross meals on wheels from 1983 to 1995.

Seidel was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, West Reading.

Surviving are two sons, Bruce R. Jr., Cincinnati, and Terrence J., Mohnton.

Other survivors include 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church. Entombment will be in Gethsemane Cemetery Mausoleum, Laureldale. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading, is in charge of arrangements.
