Bridget A. Shirey

Bridget A. Shirey, 62, of Rosemead Avenue, South Heidelberg Township, a former teacher in the Twin Valley School District, died of natural causes April 11 in Reading Hospital, where she had been a patient since April 3.

She was the wife of Lee A. Shirey.

Born in West Reading, she was a daughter of Bernard J. Elzer, Wernersville, and the late Mary (O'Reilly) Elzer.

Shirey was employed as a preschool teacher by Twin Valley, retiring in 1971.

She was a 1958 graduate of Central Catholic High School and a 1962 graduate of Marywood College, Scranton.

Shirey was past president of the Wernersville Elementary Parent-Teachers Organization and served on the Conrad Weiser Boosters Club board of directors from 1985 until 1989.

She is also survived by a son, Lee M., Lincoln Park, and a brother, Bernard J. Elzer II, North Heidelberg Township.

There is also one granddaughter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church, Whitfield. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading, is in charge of arrangements.
