Brian Richard Bates, 65, died the evening of November 11, 2008 in his Bern Township residence.
He was the husband of the late Judith Ann (Reidinger) Bates.
Born March 24, 1943 in Reading, he was a son of the late Curtis Monroe and Kathryn M. (Hinnershitz) Bates.
Brian was a graduate of Muhlenberg High School.
He was employed by Conrail Railroad and Dana Corp. as a welder. throughout his life he also worked as a farmer.
Brian was a member of the Pricetown Hunting Club as well as the Reading Booster's Club.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wildlife, walking.
Brian also enjoyed spending time with his two dogs, Buddy and Lucky.
Surviving are two daughters, Cindy L. (Bates), wife of Barry M. Haring of Maidencreek Township and Shari L. (Bates) Faller of Virginia Beach, VA.
In addition there is a brother, Barry, husband of Janet Bates of Eugene, OR and Las Vegas, NV.
There are five grandchildren also surviving, Jennifer A. (Good) Madigan, Amanda M. Haring, Matthew Faller, Troy A. Bates and Brett M. Haring as well as a great granddaughter, Alexandria Good.
Brian was predeceased by a son, Allen William Bates, who died April 24, 2008.
A Memorial Service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale. There will be a visitation held one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
