Betty Burns Walborn

Betty Burns Walborn, 94 years of age, died March 18, 2013, in her home at the Highlands, with her husband and family surrounding her with love. Born at home, July 26, 1918 in Greenville, PA. the daughter of Walter Hall Burns and Ruth Longdon Burns. A graduate of John Harris High School, Harrisburg, she went on to PA School Business and having a gift of a beautiful voice, she sang for WHP Radio on the weekends. In 1939, she married the love of her life, John G. Walborn, with whom she celebrated 73 years together.

Betty was the lead soloist for Atonement Lutheran Church for 23 years, served on the Great Valley Girl Scout Council and was leader of a Wyomissing troop for 15 years. She was the regional troop coordinator for two International Roundups of 10,000 Girl Scouts in Vermont and Idaho. She created beautiful gardens wherever she lived and was an accomplished crafter in crewel and petit point. A member of Berks Camera Club and a wonderful photographer, she traveled the world with her husband and produced travelogues which won national awards at the Photographic Society of America. Her favorite role was one of wife, mother, and grandmother.

In addition to her husband John, she is survived by two children: her son, John B. Walborn and daughter, Marshia Carlino, wife of Peter Carlino; four grandchildren: Kelly Masano, wife of John Masano; Kathleen Schippers, wife of Eric Schippers; Peter Carlino, husband of Alissa (Nickey) and Christopher Carlino. In addition there are nine great grandchildren: John, Megan and Kathryn Masano; Noah, Aiden, and Kalia Schipppers; Gianna, Siena, and Lucia Carlino. She is survived by a sister, Phillis Chirico of Willaimston, MI., and predeceased by a sister, Berneice Dietz of Camp Hill, PA.
