Betty Jane Meinig

Betty Jane (Moore) Meinig, 91, passed away peacefully June 18, 2013 in her Wyomissing residence surrounded by her loving family.

She was the widow of Carl H. Meinig. Born in West Reading, she was the daughter of the late Robert S. and Helen I. (Rhode) Moore.

Betty was a graduate of West Reading High School.

She was a volunteer for The Reading Hospital and the American Cancer Society. She was also an active member of the Jr. League of Reading.

Betty was passionate about her garden, flowers, family and friends and she loved to travel. She was an avid golfer but her true, life-time passion was tennis. She played competitively in her youth and continued playing throughout her later years. She was adored by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who knew her as "Nana". Everyone admired her for her feisty spirit and compassion for others.

She is survived by her three children: Karen Louise Meinig Sylver, wife of Steven Sylver, Christina Moore Meinig, and Peter C. Meinig, husband of Nancy Schlegel Meinig. Also surviving are her six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and her loving Tabby Cat, Sam. She will be dearly missed by her sister-in-law, Doris Orth Moore, and her extensive "fan club" of nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

Betty was predeceased by her son, Fredrick R. Meinig and her brother, Robert S. Moore, Jr.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, August 2, 2013 at 2 p.m. in Atonement Lutheran Church, 5 Wyomissing Blvd., Wyomissing. Burial will be private.
