Betty Lou (Wennell) Stover, 84, died December 31, 2013, in Manor Care, Sinking Spring.
Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Luther Earl and Florence Mildred (Haring) Wennell.
She was a graduate of Reading High School, 1946; Reading Hospital School of Nursing, 1949; West Chester University, for School Nursing and Kutztown University earning a degree in education.
Betty was a school nurse at Reading High School until she started teaching. She first taught at Yocum Elementary School, Grill; second grade at Cumru Elementary School until 1963; and from 1963 to 1967 she taught first grade at Anderson Air Force Base Elementary School, in Guam. Her final role was teaching gifted students and remedial reading at Governor Mifflin Middle School, retiring in 1989.
She was a member of Alsace Lutheran Church, Reading.
Betty was very active in the Pennsylvania State Educators Association. She was the former president of the Governor Mifflin Teachers Union. She also loved to travel.
Betty is survived by two daughters, Beth L. Reber, Bernville and Susan I., wife of David Berryman, Old Hickory, TN and four grandchildren, Justin, Hannah, Taylor and Anna.
She was predeceased by her former husband, William B. Stover.
Services will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. Burial will be private. Friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 3 p.m. in the funeral home.
