Betty Frances (Freed) Ruth, 94, of Wyomissing, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 23, 2016 at the Reading Hospital with her children by her side.
Her husband of 61 years, James A. Ruth Sr. DDS, died in 2005.
Born in Rochester, Minnesota, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Cecil F. and Florence H. (Evans) Freed.
Betty was a resident of the Highlands at Wyomissing since 2000 and has been a long-time resident of Wyomissing.
She graduated from Wyomissing High school, McCann School of Business, Reading Bible Institute, and Sullins College in Bristol, Virginia.
Betty was the past president of the Berks County Dental Alliance. She also won the Paul Harris Fellow Rotarian Award. Betty was a member of the Reading Symphony Orchestra League, and held season tickets.
She enjoyed her church's voice and bell choirs and the Highland's voice and bell choirs. She enjoyed her piano, all types of music, and old movies. She loved Bible study. Betty and her husband Jim were world travelers. She loved going on vacations to Ocean City, Maryland.
Betty especially enjoyed family gatherings in her home on holidays. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who will be truly missed by all who knew her.
Her greatest adventure was her final journey for which she prepared all her life: her return Home to her Heavenly domicile. "When Christ shall come with shouts of acclamation and take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!"
A special thank you to be extended to the patient and loving staff and nursing team of the Highlands at Wyomissing, especially while Betty was living in Personal Care and Skilled Nursing. Also, thank you to Heartland Hospice.
Betty's final wishes were to be donated to science through the Humanity Gifts Registry in Philadelphia, to help contribute to the advancement of treatments of various conditions and diseases. Thanks to selfless acts, such as Betty's, the medical field is continuously growing and advancing in knowledge to help save others.
Betty leaves behind a son and a daughter and their families. She is survived by her son, James A. Ruth Jr, husband of Corunna (Schofer) Ruth, of Aurora, Illinois; her daughter, Brenda (Ruth) LeVan, wife of George E. LeVan Jr. of Sinking Spring, PA; and five grandchildren: Steven LeVan, Kevin LeVan, Jason Ruth, David Ruth, Kathryn (Ruth) Josberger, and their families.
