Betty M. Diehm

Betty M. Diehm, 78, Spring Township, died Oct. 18 at 12:30 a.m. in Reading Hospital, where she had been a patient since Oct. 7.

She was the wife of Elwood Diehm.

Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Luther L. DeHart and Marion K. (Kern) Steakelum.

Diehm had been employed for 15 years as a bookkeeper by the Berks County Association for the Blind, retiring in 1998. She previously worked for 20 years at David Schein Co., Reading.

She was a member of Alsace Lutheran Church, Hyde Park.

Diehm was a 1944 graduate of Reading High School.

She is also survived by a son, Robert S. Schwartz, Reading; and two daughters, Diane L. (Schwartz) O'Neil, Reading, and Kathy L. (Schwartz) Brautigan, Bernville.

Other survivors include a sister, Marilyn L. (DeHart) Gaul, Delran, N.J.

There are also seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading. Private burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton.
