Bertha A. Schropp

Bertha A. Schropp, 96, Orwigsburg passed from this life into God's presence on Tuesday, March 2, 2010, in the residence of her daughter in Birdsboro. She was born on November 5th, 1913 in North Manheim Township to Furman and Emma (Miller) Bensinger. She grew up and lived in Drehersville all her life. She married her husband Ralph C. Schropp on April 23, 1939. He preceded her in death on March 20, 1986. She was employed at the Sylray Knitting Mill before her marriage and later at Roher's Knitting Mill in Orwigsburg, retiring in 1964. She was a devoted member of the Drehersville Salem United Methodist Church since 1932. She was elected Sunday school treasurer in 1941 and later church treasurer in the late 1950's. She retired from these positions in 2001. She was one of the first den mothers when Cub Pack and Scout Troop 155 of Deer Lake were formed in 1953. Bertha enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, reading and gospel music. She was the loving mother of Audrey Krassowski, Birdsboro, Roger, husband of Linda , Oley, Mark, husband of Marilyn, Schuylkill Haven an Yvonne, wife of Thomas Siegfried, Orwigsburg. Her youngest daughter, Nanette Gerhard, preceded her in death in April 1974. She is survived by nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was greatly loved and will be missed terribly. One of twelve children, she is also survived by four sisters: Marie wife of William Miller, Camp Hill, Irene widow of Nevin Kauffman, Hamburg, Ruth wife of Wayne Kamp, New Ringgold and Mildred widow of of Robert Krammes. She is survived by one brother, Arthur Bensinger husband of Janet, Orwigsburg. There are many nieces and nephews who loved her. She was predeceased by two sisters, Helen Dubendorf and Martha Yoder and four brothers: Roy, Harold, Fred and Harry Bensinger. Services will be held on Saturday, March 6 at 11:00 AM in Drehersville Salem United Methodist Church, Route 895 E. and Church Lane. A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 PM in the Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, Inc. Hamburg and Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the church. Burial will be in Drehersville Cemetery, West Brunswick Township. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Drehersville United Methodist Church Memorial Fund in care of Lynn Yoder, 160 Red Church Road, Auburn, PA 19722.
