Bernice Caroline Miller

Bernice C. Miller, 88, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024, in the care of St. Francis Home, Shillington. She was the loving wife of 13 years to Dean Shade. Born in Berkshire Heights, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Caroline (Bacher) Sperman.

She graduated from Wyomissing High School in 1953. She was employed by Penn Optical and SharPoint and did odd jobs caring for and helping family and friends.

She was happiest working in her vegetable and flower garden or anything to do with nature. She would go out of her way to help others in need and put a smile on their face. Everyone knew her as "Aunt MeMe."

Left to treasure Bernice's memory are her husband, Dean; her sister, Arlene Irwin, widow of Arthur Irwin, of West Lawn; nephew, Steve Irwin (Michelle); nieces, Carol Zimmerli and Linda Billman; and also cousins and nieces from out of state.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her previous husband, Robert Miller, and her stepdaughters, May Perry, Sylvia Schaeffer, and Jewel Splain.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Francis Home, 144 Hillside Drive, Reading PA 19607.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024, at 12:00 noon at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc, 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading PA 19611, with committal to follow at Pleasant View Cemetery.
