Bernard L. Horowitz, 89, of Scranton, PA, passed away April 14, 2015 in Manor at Market Square.
Born in Scranton, he was a son of the late Maxwell and Anna Horowitz.
He attended Tech High Institute. He also earned certification as a Gemologist.
Bernard was a U. S. Army 2nd Tech Sgt. veteran serving during WWII in the 63RD Infantry Blood and Fire Division. Bernard earned the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon and WW II Victory Ribbon.
He was a member of Shomrei Habrith Synagogue where he served multiple terms on the board.
Bernard was an avid writer, musician, singer, poet and newspaper crossword puzzle enthusiast.
Bernard worked in sales management for Harold's Furniture winning Top Salesman for nine consecutive years.
He is survived by his former wife, Joy Horowitz; five children: Annah Litzenberger and her husband, Michael and their children, Olivia and Mackenzie, Abington, MA; A. Jason Horowitz, Norman, OK; Kevin S. Horowitz, Birdsboro fiancé to Kathy Lease, and son of the late Emily "Ronni" Greenwald; Iris Bellman and her son, Nicholas, Wyomissing and Pastor Terry Horowitz and his children Twyla and Tiffany and his wife, Nelda, Ball, LA; and his nephew, Howard Holniker, KY.
Bernard was predeceased by six siblings: Irving Mendelsshon, Myer Mendelsshon, Paul Mendelsshon, Herman Mendelsshon, Ruth Moskowitz and Betty Buono.
Memorial services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading, PA 19611. Friends may call Saturday from 9 to 10 am. In the funeral home.
