Bernard "Bernie" Allen Schmeck

Bernard "Bernie" Allen Schmeck, 74, died December 15, 2013 in his Alsace Township residence.

He was the husband of Joan Marie (Delp) Schmeck, whom he married July 9, 1983.

Born in his Muhlenberg Township residence on June 3, 1939, he was a son of the late Howard and Eva (Gehris) Schmeck.

He was employed a number of years as an electrician with Reading Electric and later as a maintenance technician with General Battery, Muhlenberg Township, until his retirement.

Bernie is also survived by four children: Catrina Ann (Valeriano) Stump, companion of Matthew E. Schrufer of Wyomissing, Vincent J., husband of Elise A. (Kurtyka) Valeriano of Mooresville, NC, Lisa L. (Valeriano) Jones, companion of Eddie D. Gradarek and Kim M. (Valeriano), wife of Charles Bortz of Maxatawny Township.

Other survivors include five siblings: Jane (Schmeck), widow of Forrest Geible of Laureldale, Leona (Schmeck), widow of Henry Boyer of Temple, Roy, husband of Sue Schmeck of Temple, Hilda Schmeck of Reading and Sylvia (Schmeck), wife of Darlington Krott of Temple and a sister-in-law, Jackie (Delp), wife of Sammy Reber of Leesport.

There are also nine grandchildren: Hannah, Emily, Vanessa, Kristi, Taryn, Lauryn, Dan, Kristen and Jason and eight great grandchildren: Jackson, Milania, Gavin, Ava, Kai, Oliviana, Rowen and Molly.

He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and good friends.

Bernie was predeceased by two sisters: Ethel (Schmeck) Fick and Jennie Schmeck.

Services will be held Friday at 11:00 am in Kuhn-Stitzel Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 423 Main Street, Oley, PA 19547. A viewing will be held Friday from 10:00 am until time of service. Burial will be private in Spies-Zion Cemetery.
