Basil Floriani

Basil Floriani, 81, died April 29th in his residence at 1009 Penn Street, Reading.

He was the widower of Elnor A. (Krebs) Floriani.

Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Frank P. and Carmela (Saitta) Floriani.

He was a 1940 graduate of St. Peter's High School, Reading and a 1949 graduate of McCann's Business School.

Floriani was a past owner of White Star Library, Reading which he owned from 1949-1957.

He later was the owner for 16 years of The Catholic Shop of Reading. After selling the store, he served as Manager of the West Reading Branch of the Catholic Shop of Norristown for 20 years and last as a sales assistant for 10 years before retiring in 2003.

Floriani was a Army Veteran of WWII where he received a Bronze Star.

He was a member of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church, Reading.

Floriani was a life member of the Sons of Italy, past secretary of the Legion of Mary and past commander of the Catholic War Veterans, Reading Post # 504.

He is survived by four daughters, Rita Floriani, Eileen (Floriani) Scheibner both of Reading, Catherine Floriani of Manassas, Virginia and Margaret Floriani of Ephrata, Lancaster County.

Floriani is also survived by four sons, Thomas of Wyomissing, Peter, Patrick and Chris, all of Reading.

Other survivors include a sister, Rose (Floriani) Cinfici of Reading and a brother, Vincent Floriani of Massapequa, New York.

There are six grandchildren.

Funeral from Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading, Monday at 9:30 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:00 am in St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church, 151 North 9th Street, Reading, Pa 19601. Viewing will be held Sunday evening 6:30 - 8:00 pm in the funeral home. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township. Contributions may be made to the church at the above address.
