Barton B. Proger, age 81 of Selinsgrove, PA passed away peacefully on Monday, March 17, 2025 at Emmanuel Center for Nursing in Danville, PA.
Bart was born on April 30, 1943 in West Reading, PA to the late Fritz J. Proger and Lisette Richter Proger. He attended Wilson High School in West Lawn, Albright College in Reading, and earned his Doctor of Education from Lehigh University. Bart worked as a director of special education at the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit for thirty-two years. After retiring from the Intermediate Unit, Bart was a delivery driver for Duron Paints.
Through the years, Bart was on the Library Board in King of Prussia, was on the board of the Montgomery County Historical Society, served on the Shade Tree Commission in King of Prussia, and received recognition from Montgomery County for his volunteer work on "Montgomery County, the Second Hundred Years". Bart married Helen McMahon of Conshohocken in 1969 and they lived in King of Prussia for 50 years where they raised their four children.
In 2020, Bart and Helen moved to Selinsgrove, PA. He enjoyed working on the family genealogy, constructing his model train platform, collecting model cars and trucks, and reading about trains and automobiles. Bart greatly enjoyed summer vacations with the family at Wildwood Crest, NJ, and later at Cape May with his wife, and his greatest joy was spending time with family, especially his grandchildren who adored him and whom he adored.
Bart is survived by his wife Helen, son William of Sandy, Utah, daughter Julia Dubois (Fabrice) of St. Didier, France, Michael (Lori) of Selinsgrove, and daughter Elizabeth Murphy (Matthew) of Brookline, NH. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren: Isabel, Carolyn, Katelyn, and William Proger, Eve and Tyler Dubois, and Lydia and Ethan Murphy. Bart had one sister, Marlene Bressler Hopkins of West Lawn who predeceased him.
A viewing will be held at Mother of Divine Providence Church on Monday, March 24 from 10:00 am followed by Mass at 11:00 am. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in West Conshohocken.
