Barry L. Shellenhamer, 57, of Spring Township, died September 19, 2010.

He was the husband of Karen M. (Bowers) Shellenhamer.

Born in Harrisburg, he was a son of the late Enos T. and Alberta M. (Nesbit) Shellenhamer.

Barry was a 1971 graduate of Central Dauphin High School and a 1975 graduate of Albright College. From 1974-1975 Barry played semi pro football for the Wilkes Barre Giants.

In 1977 he began his career with East Penn Manufacturing Company, Inc. He was employed as the Vice President of Product Development, last working on Friday.

He was an avid biker and loved whitewater rafting. He also enjoyed basketball, golf and football.

Barry was the assistant basketball coach for St. Ignatius CYO boys in 1999, and the head coach from 2005 to 2008. During those years he also served as a commissioner for the Berks County CYO boys.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two children: Jason P. Shellenhamer, husband of Lisa A. Krause, Annapolis, MD and Amanda M., wife of Nathan S. Kelly, Wernersville. Also surviving are his brothers: Richard, husband of Sandee Shellenhamer, Lebanon and Craig A. Shellenhamer, Harrisburg. There is one granddaughter surviving, Payton M. Kelly.

A Prayer Service will be Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family in Gethsemane Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Ignatius CYO, 2810 St. Albans Dr., Whitfield, PA 19608.
