Barry C. Hagge, 67, lost his fight with brain cancer on July 15, 2014 in Phoenix, Arizona.
He was a son of the late Donald J. and Mary Jane (Zillhardt) Hagge; loving husband of Dolores (Endy) Hagge and loving father, poppy, brother, uncle and friend.
Barry was a 1964 graduate of Boyertown High School. After high school, he entered the United States Navy and served two tours in Vietnam; one on board the USS Galveston and the other on YFU-60, on the rivers.
Following the Navy, he attended Maxwill Institute and started his long career in information technology, working at Firestone Tire & Rubber, Cabot Corporation and then started his career in banking.
He started at American Bank (Core States) as a computer programmer. He retired June, 2013 from Ally Financial, which was part of GMAC Financial, where he was the internet security manager.
Barry was a life member of the Vietnam Veterans of America. He was past president of VVA Chapter 131, Berks County and served in every position, except president of the PA State Council VVA.
He went on to serve as vice-chair then chair of the National Constitution Committee for over 10 years. Barry then served as the national secretary for the organization for six years. He is a current member of the Valley Forge Chapter #349, Norristown, PA and a member of the Oley Legion Post #878, where he was a past commander.
He was also inducted into the Legion of Honor for the Chapel of Four Chaplains, Philadelphia.
Barry served on the Berks Armed Forces Advisory Committee and was a member of the former Navy League of Reading.
He was a past president of Firestone Salaried Employees Credit Union which became part of the Tri-County Federal Credit Union.
Barry was a past secretary of the Oley Township Zoning Board, which he served on for over 20 years.
He was an avid roller skater all his life. Barry met his wife of 44 years while skating and past on his love of skating to his daughter and granddaughters.
Because of his love of the sport, he was a floor guard for many years in the former CC Skate Ranch; Pheasantland Skating Rink and Fantasy Skating Center. Most of the those years he volunteered his time because he wanted the young kids to have a safe place to skate.
In addition to skating, he enjoyed his time on Long Beach Island and spending time with his beloved granddaughters.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Cynthia A. (Hagge), wife of Timothy L. Landis and two granddaughters: Taryn G. Landis and Madison L. Landis, all of Glendale, AZ.
Other survivors include his sister, Donna M. (Hagge), wife of Bruce Russell of Lancaster; a niece, Lindsay Russell of Lancaster and a nephew, Matthew Russell of Detroit, Mich.
Services will be held Monday, July 28th at 11:00 am in Kuhn-Stitzel Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 423 Main Street, Oley. A viewing will be held Monday from 9:30 am until time of services. Burial will be in Oley Cemetery, Spangsville.
