Barry Joe Gilbert

Barry Joe Gilbert, 46, of 3305 Harrison Avenue, Muhlenberg Township, died February 16th at 2:48 p.m. in the Emergency Room of The Reading Hospital and Medical Center.

He was the husband of Loren Lee "Lori" (Rhoads) Gilbert.

Born in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, he was a son of Charles H. Sr., and Viola N. (Smith) Gilbert of Muhlenberg Township.

He was a member of Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, Tuckerton.

Gilbert was a 1974 graduate of Muhlenberg High School.

He was employed by The Reading Hospital and Medical Center in the Engineering Department for 23 years, last working in May of 1997.

Gilbert was a member of "Gilley's", a team of the City Slow Pitch Softball League which was the runner-up in the State Championship in 1987.

He was also a former coach for Little League Baseball and Girls Softball, both of the Muhlenberg Athletic Association.

Gilbert is also survived by his paternal grandmother, Martha S. (Hess) Gilbert, of Muhlenberg Township.

Other survivors include his five children, Jessica N., Chelsea M., Kristin B., Travis B. and Michael R., all at home.

He is also survived by four brothers, Steven C. of Mohrsville, Bradley R. of Sinking Spring, Randy S. of Muhlenberg Township and Charles H. Jr., of Hamburg.

There is also two sisters, Carol L. (Gilbert) Millisock of Supply, North Carolina and Sherry L. (Gilbert) Stern of Muhlenberg Township.

He was predeceased by a sister, Linda S. Gilbert who died September 15, 1957.

Services will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. in Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, Tuckerton. Viewing 9am until time of service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Barry Gilbert Children's Fund, c/o Millennium Bank 1200 Broadcasting Road, Wyomissing, Pa 19610. Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., Laureldale is in charge of arrangements.
