Barry Lee Degler, 72, of Spring Township, died of natural causes March 26, 2009 at 3:04 a.m. in his son Daniel's Spring Township residence.
He was the husband of Edith (Schnabel) Degler, Spring Township, whom he married May 14, 1960.
Born November 9, 1936 in Reading, he was a son of the late Richard L. and Clara A. (Riegel) Degler.
Barry was a graduate of Mount Penn High School.
He was employed as a lineman at Met-Ed Company, Muhlenberg Township for 25 years.
Barry also worked as a mail clerk with Sovereign Bank, Reading, last working in January.
He enjoyed spending time with family and walking and playing with his dog Taffy.
Barry was a very loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He was an avid Philadelphia sports fan.
Barry is also survived by five children: Debbie L. (Degler) Patton of Temple; Deanna L. (Degler), widow of George K. Smith; Dennis L. Degler; David A. Degler and Daniel B., husband of Alicia L. (Blough) Degler, all of Spring Township.
Other survivors include ten grandchildren: Scott H., Jr., Jessika and Brandi Patton, Crystal, Jamie and Alyssa Smith, and Derick M., Aidan S. and Alex M. Degler.
Four great-grandchildren also survive him: Julius and Nevaeh Torres and Travis, Jr. and Christian Kauffman.
There is also a sister, Judy (Degler) Steininger of West Chester and three nieces and a nephew surviving.
He was predeceased by a grandson, Michael K. Smith.
Services will be Saturday at 2:00 pm in the Chapel at Laureldale Cemetery, Rt. 61 at Tuckerton Road, Muhlenberg Township, with Rev. Jeffrey A. Raffauf officiating. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services in the Chapel. Burial will be in Laureldale Cemetery.
