Barbara Rawden, 73, died April 1st in The Highlands of Wyomissing nursing unit where she resided for the past two years.
Born in Elgin, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Howard V. and Elsie (Nordlund) Seyller.
Rawden graduated from Elgin High School in 1950.
She was a professional singer for many years during the 1950's and 1960's and had connections with a number of outstanding jazz musicians.
Rawden lived for some years in Flying Hills and moved to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina in 1985. During her seventeen years living on Hilton Head, she was devoted to the island's Jazz Society. She served in several capacities including Program Director and later as the Society President. This endeavor was her passion.
Surviving is a daughter, Stephanie Rawden of Spring Ridge; and a son, Christian H. Rawden of Flying Hills.
A celebration of life will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 11th from 6 to 9 p.m at Bistro 614, 614 Penn Ave. West Reading, PA 19611. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Barbara Rawden's name to, Louis Armstrong Jazz Camp, Jazz at Lincoln Center 33 West 60th Street New York, New York 10023. The Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of the arrangements.
