Barbara D. (Sussman) Anan Kogan, 69, of Wyomissing, passed away June 20, 2017, in Exeter Greens Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late Armand and Muriel (Sinberg) Sussman.
She was a 1965 graduate of William Allen High School, earned her bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Hartford University, studied Journalism at Temple University, and received her doctoral degree in Optometry from the Southern College of Optometry.
Barbara's work history included being employed by the Hartford Times, NW Ayer Publishing (Business Week), Philadelphia; and Scott Paper Company, Philadelphia. She later worked in public relations at Mercy Hospital, Miami; worked at For Eyes in Washington D.C.; was self-employed at her own Optometric Practice in Washington D.C.; and worked at Kogan Communication, Washington D.C.
Barbara was a research writer and journalist (her articles are still available on the internet). She had multiple educational accomplishments including Doctor of Optometry and several sub-specialties of the field of Optometry. She was Board Certified to practice Optometry in District of Columbia, Virginia, New York State, and Texas.
She was the president of Optometric Society for District of Columbia, held a Certificate of Fellowship of the National Eye Research Foundation, and was a member of the American Medical Writers Association.
Barbara made many personal contributions through her research and journaling alternative therapies through nutrition and supplementation. She spent long hours working with other Optometrists and various specialty physicians on caring and treatment of patients with head trauma; a topic close to her heart due to being a victim of a life altering head trauma in 1997.
She is survived by her sister, Bonnie Sussman-Versace, wife of Philip Versace of Wyomissing.
A graveside service will be held Friday, June 23, 2017, at 9:30 a.m. at Agudas Achim Cemetery, 313 Catasauqua Rd., Whitehall, PA 18052. Contributions may be made in Barbara's memory to the Quietmind Foundation at 315 Yorktown Plaza Elkins Park, PA 19027. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading, is entrusted with arrangements.
