Barbara A. (Wehr) Kerper, 90 (formerly of Flying Hills, PA), passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on October 16, 2017. She had been a resident in the Memory Unit of Berkshire Commons for three weeks.
Born in Reading, PA, Barbara was the daughter of the late Paul C. and Ella Coe Wehr. She graduated from Reading High School and the Helen Moore Hoffman Secretarial School. Barbara was working for her parents at the Reading Airport Restaurant when she met her husband Charles G. Kerper, then a pilot for Reading Aviation Service. They were married for 64 years until he passed in July 2016.
Barbara adored her family, was devoted to her friends, enjoyed entertaining, and loved her flowers. She was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church and Women of Atonement. She enjoyed volunteering in the psychiatric unit of The Reading Hospital, the Garden Party, the Wyomissing Hills Elementary School Library, and served on the board of the Berks County Office of the Aging.
She is survived by daughters, Holly (Sheldon) Meyer, Reading, PA and Melissa Kerper, Flying Hills, PA; grandsons Timothy (Valerie) Meyer, Mt. Rainier, MD and Andrew (Betty) Meyer, Falls Church, VA.; great-grandchildren Sienna and Dean Meyer; grand-dog Hershey, and nephews Mark Oxenreider and Roger Gallo. She was preceded in death by her daughter Kimberly, sister Meta Gallo and niece Suzanne Clapper.
We are heartbroken that she has left us, but rejoice knowing that she and our father are together once again. We are most grateful to Kathy Donnon, the staff of Berkshire Center and Berkshire Commons, and Grane Hospice for their love, support and compassionate care.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, October 27, 2017, at 10 AM in Atonement Lutheran Church, Wyomissing, PA, with burial to follow at Laureldale Cemetery. Friends may greet the family at 9 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Atonement Lutheran Church, 5 Wyomissing Boulevard, Wyomissing, PA 19610 or The Animal Rescue League of Berks County, 58 Kennel Road, Birdsboro, PA 19508.
