Barbara A. Isganitis

Barbara A. Isganitis, 85, of Reading, PA transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life on Saturday, June 29, 2024. She was married to Victor Isganitis for 40 years until his sudden passing in 2001.

Born on October 30, 1938 to the late Anna M. (Steber) and Frank Sudnick in Hazleton, Barbara was a graduate of St. Kunegunda Catholic Elementary School and McAdoo High School where she was a varsity cheerleader and co-editor of the high school yearbook.

She attended Pottsville Hospital School of Nursing having served as class secretary and Corresponding Secretary of Area No.2 as well as at the National Convention. Barbara's life changed suddenly when she lost her sight after contracting meningitis at the age of 19, prior to graduating from nursing school.

Barbara married Victor, the love of her life, in 1961 and worked at Reading Hospital as a medical transcriptionist until leaving that position to be a full-time homemaker. Barbara was a devoted, wife, daughter and friend. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, and furry pets; dancing; singing; swimming; shopping; eating chocolate; and going out for breakfast.

Barbara belonged to St. Ignatius Loyola R.C. Parish and was a member of the ladies' prayer group. Barbara's faith, tenacity, compassion, courage, determination, poise, humor, and sense of gratitude inspired all who had the privilege of being a part of her life. Certainly, all who knew Barbara will carry her love and laughter in their hearts forever. She will be especially missed by her faithful friends, "Barbara's Buddies," – Rich Ketter, Maria O'Brien, Barbara Hummel, Marcia Charlton, Mary Banco, and Beth Schmidt.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ignatius of Loyola Church in West Lawn. Barbara will be laid to rest in the All Saints Cemetery, formerly St. Kunegunda Cemetery, McAdoo, Schuylkill County.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Ignatius Loyola Parish, West Lawn, or the Vision Resource Center of Berks County.
