Barbara E. Fischer

Barbara "Bobbie" Fischer passed away early in the morning on May 27, 2025, at The Highlands of Wyomissing. She was deeply loved by her daughter Cara Pepper (Shillington, PA) and her grandson Stephen Pepper (Orlando, FL). Her husband Alfred predeceased her as did her parents, Herbert and Elsie Winter.

Bobbie was born on January 28, 1932, and grew up in Long Island, New York. She received a BS in Education from Adelphi College and an MA from Columbia University. She taught kindergarten in West Islip, East Meadow, and South Huntington Schools Districts on Long Island.

Bobbie attended St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Huntington Long Island, NY, St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in New Bern, NC and finally Atonement Lutheran Church in Wyomissing, PA. She was active in all of them playing hand bells, Stephen Ministry, teaching bible study, singing in adult choirs and was part of various committees and groups that served God's people. She helped establish a Nursery School and a Before and After-school program for St. Peter's.

She moved to Wyomissing after her husband died to be closer to her daughter and grandson and enjoyed 15 years there making friends and supporting others. She sponsored two children from Africa and was blessed to see them grow and thrive. She was known for her hugs when people needed them and even when they didn't know they did. She touched many lives, thanks to the grace and gifts that God granted her and she was grateful for all those opportunities.

Bobbie's hobbies included creating trip albums, exploring her family's genealogy, studying the bible, writing, knitting and various other crafts. She loved to make cards and send them to family and friends for all occasions. Her handmade Afghans were a special gift to all those she considered family.

A private service will be held at Atonement Lutheran Church.

Cara is forever grateful for the love and support she received from her family and friends, members and staff from Atonement Lutheran church, staff in the skilled nursing facility and the hospice team.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Mercy Ships or Atonement Lutheran Church. All these organization have programs that benefits children and as a teacher, children were her love.

Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc. 739 Penn Ave, West Reading, PA 19611 is honored to serve Bobbie's family.
