Barbara J. Deem

Barbara J. Deem, 92, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2023, in the care of Berks Heim. She was the loving wife of Donald "Pud" D. Deem, with whom she shared over 68 years of marriage. Born in Richland, she was the daughter of the late Mark and Anna (Betz) Zerbe. Barbara was a 1949 graduate of Reading High School. She was a long-time member of Advent Lutheran Church.

Barbara treasured her time with her family. She worked part-time in accounts receivable at Exide, and at John Wanamaker's, while her children were young. She left for work after they had gone to school and was always there when they arrived home. She was a "block parent" to all the children of their Whitfield neighborhood where she lived for more than 60 years. She was an avid bingo player, both with neighborhood couples and a ladies club.

Barbara and Donald traveled a great deal later in life. They traveled extensively throughout the country, visiting many National Parks, family, and all 48 continental United States. They also enjoyed a cruise to Alaska.

In addition to her beloved husband, Barbara is survived by their children: Kirk D. Deem (Rebecca) of Sun Lakes, AZ; Carol D. Deem of Lititz; and Lori S. Lutz (Stanley) of Sinking Spring; grandchildren, Benjamin, Alexander, and Elizabeth; and her sister, Jean Kautter (William) of Georgia.
