Attorney Norman E. Dettra

Norman E. Dettra, Jr., 80, of Phoebe Berks and formerly of Lincoln Park, died April 27, 2011, in Reading Hospital and Medical Center.

He was the husband of Nancy C. (Neatock) Dettra. They were married on June 19, 1954.

Born in West Reading, he was the son of the late Rev. Norman E. and Sarah E. (Ash) Dettra.

He was a graduate of Fleetwood High School in 1948, Albright College in 1952 and Dickinson School of Law in 1956.

Norm was a founding partner at Huyett and Dettra Attorneys at Law. Later, he was a partner for Rhoda, Stoudt and Bradley, and subsequently, a shareholder for Kozloff Stoudt, retiring in January of 2006. He began his career as an associate for Mark C. McQuillen, Esq.

He was admitted into practice in the PA Appellate Courts and the Federal Appellate Courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court.

He was the Spring Township solicitor for almost 50 years, and served in the same capacity for Lower Alsace Township for 35 years.

Norm was the solicitor for the Joint Municipal Authority of Wyomissing Valley, Kutztown Area School District, Pike Township Board of Supervisors, Bern Township Municipal Authority and the Bern Township Planning Commission.

At Albright College he lectured Business Law and was involved in various college organizations affiliated with the Alumni Association.

He was past president of the Wyomissing Club.

Norm was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves.

He was a member of Lincoln Park Community United Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Constance A. Dettra, wife of Stephen Fakete, Stuart, FL and Christine D., wife of Dr. Anthony Mahon, Muncie, IN. Three grandchildren, Jeffrey Pawlikowski, fiance of Lyndsay Hair, Andrew Pawlikowski and Stephen Mahon also survive him.

He was predeceased by his sister, Sally Dettra.

The Memorial Service will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. in Lincoln Park Community United Methodist Church, 1 Carlisle Avenue Reading, PA 19609. Inurnment will be private at the convenience of the family in Charles Evans Columbarium. Friends may call Monday from 9 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Lincoln Park Community UM Church at the above address or Albright College Development Office, 13th & Bern Streets, P.O.
