Arthur J. Wahl, 89, of Wyomissing, died December 19, 2009 in Reading Hospital.
He was the devoted husband of Leacy (Tucker) Wahl, married on November 4, 1950.
Born in Saxman, KS, he was a son of the late August and Olga Bertha (Rickmann) Wahl, who immigrated from East Prussia, Germany.
He was a graduate of Kansas University, Lawrence, KS, earning his BS degree in Engineering in 1942, as a Summerfield Scholar. In 1950, he graduated from Princeton University with his PhD in Electrical Engineering.
Arthur was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He continued to serve his country as a reservist in the Air Force reaching the rank of Lt. Colonel. He was awarded the Legion of Merit for his exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services rendered during the Korean Conflict.
He was an electrical engineer for Bell Laboratories his entire career, retiring in 1982.
Arthur was a member of Christ Church Episcopal, Reading, where he had been a member of the Vestry, was a lay reader, a greeter and an usher.
He was a life member of the NRA and was both a bench rest shooter and a precision marksman. Arthur was also a lifelong runner, running two days prior to his death.
He will be deeply missed by all especially his family including his children, Beverley, wife of Dr. Mark Sherrid, Mamoroneck, NY and Richard, husband of Daphne Wahl, Charles Town, WV; his grandchildren, Gregory Sherrid and Eloise Sherrid; and his brother, Richard Wahl, Lawrence, KS. His family will always remember his kindness and gentle manner.
He was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters.
Services will be Wednesday, December 23 at 1 p.m. in Christ Episcopal Church, 435 Court Street, Reading. Burial will be private in Zion Episcopal Church Cemetery, Charles Town, WV.
