Arthur J. Speece

Arthur Joseph Speece, Sr., 87, of Cumru Township, died December 25, 2007 in Mifflin Center, Cumru Township, where he had been a patient for the last two years.

He was married July 30, 1938 to Anna Grace (Ernst) Speece, of Cumru Township.

Born February 9, 1920 in Joanna, Berks County, he was a son of the late Lylvan and Anna (Ketterer) Speece.

He was a 1937 graduate of St. Peter's High School, Reading.

Arthur was employed 23 years as a fork lift operator with Glidden Paint, Reading, before retiring in 1982.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist de La Salle Roman Catholic Church, Shillington.

Arthur is also survived by eight children; Arthur J. Jr., of Exeter Twp., David G. husband of Jane M. Speece of Bonita Springs, FL., Joanne M. wife of David E. Waligurski of Mohnton, Linda J. wife of Vincent L. McLaughlin of Reading, Glenn B. husband of Bonnie L. Speece of Cumru Twp., Gerald A. widower of Linda Speece of Temple, Mark B. husband of Donna L. Speece of Exeter Twp., and Dianne L. wife of Kirby Hartzell of Reading.

Other survivors include three siblings, Irene J. Schmidt of Reading, Joseph Speece of Muhlenberg Twp., and Janet Fenstermacher of Bern Twp.

There are also 17 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a granddaughter; Susie Speece in 1965 and eight siblings; Carl, Marie, Theresa, Anna, Catherine, Raymond, Robert and Bernard.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 9:30 am in the Chapel of Resurrection at Gethsemane Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township. No public viewing. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312. Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., Laureldale is in charge of arrangements.
