Arthur Paul Schaeffer

Arthur Paul Schaeffer, 80 of Maidencreek Township died August 9, 2008 at 8:05 p.m. in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center, where he had been taken from Golden Living Center, Exeter Township, where he had been a resident since January.

He was married to Patricia Lou (Foltz) Schaeffer on January 10, 1957.

Born December 16, 1927, he was a son of the late George and Nellie (Deem) Schaeffer.

Arthur served in the United States Air Force as a photographer for 21 years, during the Vietnam War.

He was a member of Epiphany Lutheran Church, Temple.

Also surviving are two sons, Samuel C. Schaeffer and Andrew P. Schaeffer of West Reading and a daughter Trudylou (Schaeffer) Hertzog of Maidencreek Township.

In addition there are two sisters, Catherine E. (Schaeffer) Kusior of Muhlenberg Township and Sarah (Schaeffer) Esterly of Alabama and two brothers, George Schaeffer of Reading and Robert Schaeffer of Hershey.

There is one granddaughter, Ashley L. Hertzog and a great grandson Damien A. Hertzog surviving.

Arthur was predeceased by brothers, Fred, David and John Schaeffer and sisters, Anne (Schaeffer) Kockel and Mary (Schaeffer) Moody.

Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, with Rev. Lynda Elmer officiating. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Maidencreek Township.
