Arthur J. Hornberger, 80, of Laureldale passed away June 8, 2011.
He was the husband of Joan E. (Strubing) Hornberger.
Born in Millway, PA, he was the son of the late Elmer E. and Anna J. (Heffley) Horn-berger.
He was a graduate of Shillington High School, Class of 1949.
Arthur was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a medic during the Korean War.
He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years, retiring in 1996.
Arthur was an active member of the Wyomissing Church of the Brethren, where he served as a Deacon.
He was a member of Central Fire Company, the Church Bowling League, the Senior Club of Laureldale and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
He was an active volunteer for the Berks Visiting Nurse Association, Miller-Keystone Blood Bank, the Berks Food Bank, and Camp Swatara.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters: Cheryl, wife of Lionel Williams, Mt. Penn; DeeDee Lawrence, partner to Jim Kellum, Sunbury; and Ei-leen H., wife of Craig Thompson, Madison, WI.; and a sister, Charlotte H. Mellinger, Ephrata. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Lance, Wesley, Marieke, Morgan, Keegan and Quinlan.
He was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy H. Longe-necker.
He loved gardening, cooking, traveling, bowling and spending time with family.
A viewing will be held Sunday, June 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Walter Christ Funeral Home in Laureldale. The Celebration of Life service will be held at the Wyomissing Church of the Brethren, State Hill Rd., Wyomissing, Monday, June 13 at 10 a.m. with family visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Celebration Contributions may be made to Camp Swatara, 2905 Camp Swatara Rd., Bethel, PA 19507-9554.
