Arthur A. Haberberger, 89, formerly of Cumru Township and a resident at The Highlands in Wyomissing, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2026. Art is survived by his wife of 32 years, Joanne Osman Haberberger. In addition, he is survived by his daughter, Sue of Raleigh, NC; his son, Art Jr of Bedminster. NJ and his wife Karen; and his beloved granddaughter, Bailey of Raleigh, NC.
Born in St. Marys, PA in 1937, he was the son of the late Edward and Helen (Bauer) Haberberger. Art was also predeceased by his sisters Dorthy Walker and Florence Copello. Throughout his life Art would fondly remember his many cherished experiences growing up in this small but thriving industrial town and his family’s association with the Stackpole Carbon Company.
After graduating from St. Marys High School in 1955, Art started his lifelong journey with Lycoming College in Williamsport, PA where in 1959 he received his bachelor’s degree in business administration. In the decades that followed Art would continue to support Lycoming through the establishment of many scholarships, endowments, and fellowship stipends; as well as serving as a Trustee and Board Chairman. In 1996, Art received the College’s Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award and at the completion of his tenor as Trustee Board Chairman in 2011, he was bestowed an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree.
Art arrived in Berks County upon completing his graduate studies at Penn State in State College, PA where in 1963 he joined what would become Horrigan American Inc. He remained with HAI until 1996, serving for many years as President, COO, and CEO. Under Art’s leadership, the leasing subsidiary, American Equipment Leasing, grew to become one of the largest independent leasing companies in the United States prior to its acquisition by European American Bank.
After “retiring” in 1999, Art turned his focus to private investment and transitioned into a private consultatory role providing financial and intellectual guidance to numerous local business entities as well as serving on several Corporate Boards in southeastern PA including Sovereign Bank, American Bank of the Lehigh Valley, Educators Mutual Insurance Company, the Vaugh Group, and the Arbee Group. Art and Joanne became equally as passionate about their philanthropic efforts within their communities of interest where they built deeply supportive relationships with many nonprofit organizations that addressed a broad spectrum of needs including education, food insecurity, community services, and shelter for those in need.
Art will be fondly remembered as a husband, father, grandfather, friend, mentor, champion of many causes, and (probably most descriptive of him) lover of desserts. He greatly valued his ability to make a positive impact on the lives of others whether it be though his profession or philanthropy. While an inspiration and enabler for many, he was most proud of his marriage to his wife Joanne and the many opportunities and special moments that they shared with each other.
Services and Interment will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the Joanne and Arthur Haberberger Endowed Fellowship Program at Lycoming College, Williamsport, PA 17701.
The Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, West Reading, Pennsylvania will administer Art’s directions.
