Arthur D. Irwin

Arthur D. Irwin, 74, of West Lawn, passed away November 8, 2010, in Berks Heim Nursing Home.

He was the husband of Arlene R. (Sperman) Irwin for 50 years. They were married on October 22, 1960.

Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Arthur C. and Geraldine (Yocum) Irwin.

He was a 1954 graduate of Wilson High School where he excelled in track.

Arthur was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War.

He was employed for 40 years as a truck driver for The Bachman Company, Reading. Arthur drove 2,000,000 safe driving miles, retiring in 2001. He was also the former Shop Stewart for Teamsters Local 429.

Arthur was an Eagle Scout and leader for the Boy Scouts of America Troop #473 and Pack #473 both of West Lawn.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Steven W. Irwin, Strausstown, Carol A. Zimmerli, State College and Linda M. Billman, Temple; his brother Gerald R. Irwin, Reading; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Thursday at noon in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading, PA 19611. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the funeral home. Online condolences may be recorded at www.kuhnfuneralhome.com.
