Arlene S. Werner, 94, formerly of Knauers, passed away Thursday, October 14, 2010 in Berkshire Commons where she had resided for the past three years.

Born in Mohnton, she was the wife of the late Leroy F. Werner and the daughter of the late Luke Marks and Barbara Elizabeth (Schnable) Marks.

Along with her husband, she owned and operated Werner's Hilltop Nursery in Knauers.

She previously worked for knitting mills in Mohnton and Reading, and was the former food services manager for Brecknock Elementary School until her retirement. She was a member of Allegheny Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mohnton.

She is survived by a daughter, Marjorie A. Fisher and her husband Steve of Oley; a son, Gordon L. Werner and his wife Olga of Spring Township; four grandchildren, Kirk and Kent Fisher, Linda Manaici, and Debra Hassler; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Elsie Kohl and Rachael Slichter-Boyer, and a brother, Alfred Marks.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 19, 2010, in Blankenbiller Funeral Home, 423 Main St., Oley with Rev. Robert A. Witmyer officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery, Spring Township. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services, from 10 to 11 am, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 501 Washington St., Reading PA 19603.

Blankenbiller Funeral Home, Oley, is in charge of arrangements.
