Arlene Mae Sobresky

Arlene Mae (Graybill) Sobresky, 91, of Laureldale, died October 25, 2011 in Rittenhouse Senior Living, Muhlenberg Township.

She was the wife of the late George Daniel Sobresky, whom she married in 1944. He was a former Mayor of Laureldale. He passed away July 9, 2003.

Born January 14, 1920 in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Daniel U. and Clara G.(Reinert) Graybill.

Arlene was a 1937 graduate of Muhlenberg High School, attended McCann's Business School and earned a Bachelor's degree in education from Kutztown University in 1941.

After getting married, Arlene and George moved to the west coast and she was hired by the U.S. Army Air Corps as a secretary for the special services in Blythe, CA; Paris, TX; and Walla Walla, WA.

In 1948 she worked as a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service at Laureldale Post Office and Reading Post Office.

Subsequently was employed as a teacher with Muhlenberg School District for 28 years, retiring in 1982.

Arlene was a member of Muhlenberg Retired Teacher's Association and Berks County Association of School Retirees, Muhlenberg Lioness Club, where she served as treasurer and Evergreen Country Club, Fleetwood, where she served as past treasurer and past vice president.

Arlene was a member of WBA Congress, Rajah LAdies Widows Club, Reading and served as secreatry and president of Local Leagues.

She enjoyed bowling in the WIBC, which she was a member of for 35 years.

Arlene was a member of Rosedale United Church of Christ, Laureldale, where she served as a Sunday School teacher.

Arlene is survived by a daughter, Kathy G. (Sobresky), wife of Randall L. Christman, and a granddaughter, Kelly L. Christman.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road Laureldale PA, 19605. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Laureldale Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township. For online condolences, visit www.christfuneralhome.com
