Arlene E. Dragan

Arlene E. Dragan, 82, of West Lawn, died December 23, 2011 in Columbia Cottage.

She was the wife of Joseph S. Dragan, whom she married over 60 years ago in 1951.

Born January 17, 1929, in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Alex and Lillian (Firing) Stefanowicz.

She attended Reading Schools from 1935 to 1946.

Arlene was a soda fountain clerk at Kresges 5 & 10 in 1945 and 1946 and then worked as an assembler for Yorgey Cleaners from 1946 to 1953 and in 1975 was employed as a clerk for Donnelley Directory Yellow Pages, until her retirement in 1990.

She was a founding member of St. Ignatius Loyola R.C. Church, Whitfield.

Arlene was a charter and lifelong member of Whitfield Women's Club.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her three children: Mark S. Dragan, West Lawn; David J., husband of Sandra Dragan Shillington and Jeffrey S., husband of Hilma Dragan, Merrick, Long Island, NY. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Alexander, James, Evan and Elizabeth.

A viewing will be Tuesday 6 to 8 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading and Wednesday 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Ignatius Loyola R.C. Church, 2810 St. Albans Drive, Whitfield. A committal service will be immediately following Mass in Gethsemane Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 237 Court St., Reading, PA 19601.
