Arlan Luther Snyder

Arlan Luther Snyder, 99, formerly of Muhlenberg Township, died January 9, 2015 in the Highlands of Wyomissing, 3 days short of reaching his 100th birthday.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Arlene S.B. (Reitz) Snyder and by his second wife, Mabel J. (Kanneg) Snyder. He was predeceased also by his son, Donald R. Snyder, July 9th, 2006.

Born in his Hamburg residence on January 12, 1915, he was a son of the late Mahlon W. and Annie L. (Heckman) Snyder.

He was a 1933 graduate of Hamburg High School, 1935 McCann's Business School, Reading and a 1951 graduate of American College of Life Underwriters, Philadelphia, where he earned the Chartered Life Underwriter designation.

Arlan was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Laureldale. He took abundant pride in the time he served as a teacher in the Adult Sunday School Class as well as being a regular lectern during church services.

He was a life member and 32nd degree Mason and Shriner with Lodge #549.

Arlan was active in the the Muhlenberg Lions Club for 50 years, having served as a past president.

One of his greatest achievements was being the founder of the Snyder Insurance Agency in 1935, retiring in 1980. The agency continues to thrive and is family owned and operated.

Arlan had a exemplary zest for life, keeping up with current events in various media publications, traveling worldwide, and golfing across the country. In his later years he became an avid ballroom dancer, winning numerous competitions.

Arlan is survived by four loving grandchildren: Kimberly R. Snyder of St. Petersburg, FL; Leslie R. Snyder of Spring Township; Christopher R., husband of Tamara Snyder of Muhlenberg Township and Scott R., husband of Kristin L. (Evans) Snyder of Media, Delaware County.

Other survivors include six great grandchildren, Bryce, Britney, Naomi, Vince, Katie and Scott (Buddy).

He was predeceased by five siblings: Raymond M. Snyder, Lillian C. Haeseler, Esther M. Berger, Emily S. Billman and Verna C. Phillips.

Services will be held Wednesday, January 14th at 11:00 am in Calvary Lutheran Church, 1009 Elizabeth Avenue, Laureldale, PA 19605. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services in the Church. Burial will be in Laureldale Cemetery. Kuhn-Stitzel Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., Laureldale is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church.
