Antonio G. (Anthony) Gigliotti, 85, of West Reading, passed away December 13, 2013, while in hospice care.
He was the beloved husband of Teresa G. (Bianco) Gigliotti, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage on September 7, 2013.
Born September 14, 1928 in Sersale, Provincia di Catanzaro, Calabria, Italy, he was a son of the late Serafino and Domenica (Capellupo) Gigliotti. Anthony was very proud of his Italian heritage and was past member of Order Sons of Italy in America, Spartaco Society and Victor Emmanuel Beneficial Society. Anthony came to the U.S. in December,1953 and embraced the American culture, thus becoming a U.S. citizen in 1960, which he always considered to be one of his greatest accomplishments.
Anthony was a shoemaker by trade in Italy and for some time in the U.S. He retired in 1993 as a machine operator.
He was a member of Holy Rosary R.C. Church, Reading.
Anthony loved his family and was always concerned for their well-being up to the end. He was a kind man, a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. His grandchildren were the light and joy of his life and he will be dearly missed.
In addition to his wife, Teresa, he is survived by his two children: Catina M., wife of Carmen R. Stanziola, Esquire, Cumru Township, and Anthony, husband of Sallie (Callis) Gigliotti, Leesport. Also surviving are his siblings: Angelina, widow of Joseph Gigliotti, Shillington, and Vincent, husband of Rina Gigliotti, Wyomissing. His four beloved grandchildren: Gabriel Gigliotti, Joshua Gigliotti, Maria Stanziola, and Tobias Gigliotti, as well as many nieces and nephews, also survive him.
Anthony was predeceased by his infant sister, Carmela Gigliotti.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Holy Rosary R.C. Church, 237 Franklin St, Reading. A viewing will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. Entombment will be in Gethsemane Cemetery.
