Anthony Peter Mikes of Wyomissing died June 25, 2015 at Columbia/NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, at the age of 72.

He was the devoted husband of Mary Ruth (McAllister) Mikes. Married on June 5, 1965, the couple recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Born in Baltimore, MD he was the son of the late Peter A. and Gladys (Weir) Mikes. Tony spent his childhood in Aberdeen, MD before moving to Reading, PA in the early 1960s.

A graduate of Aberdeen High School and University of Maryland, College Park, his lifelong passion for advertising began when he started a small agency called The Answer Group, which ultimately became Mikes & Reese Advertising. In 1988, after many years as an agency owner, Tony founded Second Wind, an information resource specifically designed for smaller to mid-sized advertising agencies. It was in this role that Tony realized his true calling as a mentor and teacher to other agency owners.

Tony loved living in Wyomissing and was active in his community serving as a board member to South Mountain YMCA, Threshold Rehabilitation Services and Wyomissing Area Education Foundation.

A 50-year member of First Presbyterian Church in Reading, he enjoyed serving in many capacities including Elder and Sunday school teacher.

A loving father and grandfather, Tony is survived by his wife Mary Ruth, three daughters, Laurie M., wife of Johannes Plaggenborg; Heather M., wife of Matthew Miller and Jennifer M., wife of Jeremy Mullen all of Wyomissing and four grandsons, Peter and Nicholas Plaggenborg and Jack and James Anthony Miller. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Margaret McAllister; his sister-in law Deborah M. Brown and her two children Emily and Ethan, all of Wyomissing.

A funeral service for Tony will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at 12 Noon, at First Presbyterian Church, 37 S. 5th Street, Reading, PA 19602. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. to 12 Noon. Burial will immediately follow the service at Charles Evans Cemetery.
