Anthony N. Meridionale

Anthony N. Meridionale, 84, of Reading, died in the Reading Hospital, October 29, 2015.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria B. (Nicolo) Meridionale, whom he married September 26, 1953.

Born in Reading, he was the son of the late John and Sadie (Tablone) Meridionale.

He was a member of Holy Rosary R.C. Church, Reading.

Anthony graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1949. He then continued his education at Reading Area Community College and the University of Maryland.

He served in the United States Marine Corps, from 1949 - 1952 during the Korean Conflict. He also served in the PA Air National Guard from 1953 – 1972. During his military stint, Anthony received the U.S. Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the U.S. Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Medal for 22 years of service. An Air Force Good Conduct Medal, U.S. Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Air Force Small Arms Expert, Marksmanship Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Retirement Medal and the Pennsylvania National Guard 22 years Retirement Medal.

Anthony served as a Reading Policeman from 1952 – 1977, he retired as a Lieutenant. He was then the Police Chief in Elizabethtown from 1977-1987 and continued his work for PA Capitol Police, Harrisburg from 1988 – 1996.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter; Kathleen Meridionale, Sinking Spring, one son; Kevin Meridionale, husband of Karen, Sinking Spring, a brother; John Meridionale, husband of Carol, Palmyra and two grandchildren; Anthony J. and Gabriella R. Meridionale.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday November 2, 2015 at 10 a.m. in Holy Rosary R.C.C., 237 Franklin Street, Reading, PA 19601. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the church.
