Anthony Dastra, 92, Whitfield, died April 13, 2009, in the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. He was the husband of Lula (Hatzas).
Born on January 11, 1917, in Reading, he was a son of the late Anthony and Mary (Filingero) Dastra.
Anthony served in the U.S. Army during World War II, earning a Bronze Star at the Battle of the Bulge.
He was a member of SS Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church where he served on the board for ten years.
Anthony was first employed as a machinist by Liebernecker's. He was self-employed as a barber in Reading, retiring in 1980.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW in Reading. Anthony loved gardening, fishing, golfing, hunting and cooking.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Marcia Dastra Darcourt, Wyomissing, and his son, James A. Dastra, Cape Coral, FL. His brother, Vincent Dastra, Reading, also survives him.
He was predeceased by six sisters; Sally Consentino, Carmela Williams, Clara Pachuilo, Josephine Bingaman, Sylvia Manzella, and Gloria Dolinski.
A Service will be held Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. at SS Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, Reading. There will not be a public viewing. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to SS Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 1005 E. Wyomissing Blvd, Reading, PA 19607. Edward J.
