Anthony Cianci

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anthony Peter Cianci, 88, of Wyomissing. Tony died on October 29, 2025, at Columbia Cottage.

Tony was born on March 23, 1937, to Raffaele and Mary Cianci in Reading, PA, where he was the youngest and only son in a family with four doting sisters; Yolanda, Dolores, Maryanne, and Rosemarie, all of whom predeceased him. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Lois Cianci of Wyomissing. Tony and Lois were inseparable and enjoyed over three decades of travel, friends, and fun with their grandchildren.

He is also survived by his four children: Anthony R. Cianci (Donna) of Vero Beach, FL; Terri Cianci of Lititz, PA; Joseph Cianci of Mount Pleasant, SC; and Scott Cianci (Amy) of Huntersville, NC. Also his stepson, Kurt Froelich (Dori) of Galeton, PA. He was Pop Pop to Carly Schaffer (David), Nicholas Cianci, Lauren Cianci, Adrian Krall (Rachel), Chase Krall, Grace Krall, Sierra Cianci, Mark Froelich and Cody Froelich. In addition, he was "Uncle Tony" to an extended crew and had dozens of cousins in Reading and Abruzzo, Italy.

Tony graduated from Reading High School in 1955, an honor student and letterman in football, wrestling, and baseball. He graduated from Ursinus College in 1959 where he lettered in all three sports while majoring in Business. He served his country in the Air National Guard for six years. He began working at Carpenter Technology Corporation in 1960, where he worked until his retirement in 1999, the last two decades as corporate credit manager.

He coached many of his children's sports teams, but his first love was wrestling. He was a PIAA wrestling official from 1960 to 1975, and in 1972 he started the Wilson Youth Wrestling program. Over the next ten years he coached hundreds of young wrestlers including several eventual district champions and one state champion.

Tony was the consummate athlete his entire life, playing tennis, racquetball, and golf, and also running, biking, swimming, or working out daily until the last ten years of his life when his health robbed him of his balance. He never missed a Phillies game on TV and through last month he met his high school football buddies every Wednesday for breakfast to regale stories of past gridiron glory. While we all will miss him immensely, we are comforted in the memory of all the lives he impacted with his smile, selflessness, and tremendous character. Tony was always "family first" before thinking of himself.

As he was a founding member of St. Ignatius of Loyola Church, contributions in Tony's memory may be offered to his church, mailed to the rectory office at 2810 St Albans Dr, Reading, PA 19608.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ignatius of Loyola Church, 2600 St Albans Dr, Reading, PA 19609, with committal to follow at the Chapel of St. George at Gethsemane Cemetery. Visitation and viewing will be held in the church from 10:00 a.m. until the start of mass. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc, is entrusted with arrangements.
