Anne Elizabeth Smith

Anne E. Smith, 87, passed away on Tuesday, November 22nd, 2022 at Berks Heim. She was the loving wife of William G. Smith, with whom she shared over 40 years.

Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Anne (Eline) Devine. Anne graduated Central Catholic High School (Class of 1952) and later in life, completed an Associates degree at Alvernia College. She was employed as a bookkeeper for the Berks County Senior Citizen Council for 19 years until her retirement in 2000.

Anne was a member of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic minister and taught CCD classes. She also served as treasurer of the Catholic Women's Club of Berks County.

In addition to her husband, Bill, Anne will be lovingly remembered by daughters, Carol Anne (Yerger) Kerchner of West Reading and Amy E. (Yerger) McKnight of Gilbert, AZ; brother, Michael Devine of Sparta, NJ; sisters, Ellen M. (Devine) Engler, of Wyomissing, and Margaret L. Devine of Muhlenberg Township; grandchildren: Michael Bowen, Benjamin McKnight, Jacob McKnight, and Nicholas McKnight; and great grandson, Madden.

Anne was preceded in death by daughter, Ellen M. (Yerger) Bowen; brother, Lawrence E. Devine; and sister, Mary N. (Devine) Rathman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church,322 S 5th St, Reading, PA 19602. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery in Laureldale.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Anne's memory to St. Peter's Church at the address above.
