Anna May Stevens

Anna May (Diefenderfer) Stevens, 90, of Shillington, died March 4, 2010 in the Mifflin Center.

Her husband, John B. Stevens, Jr., died February 5, 1991.

Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Laura (Rhoda) Diefenderfer.

She was a 1935 graduate of Reading High School. She then attended the Helen Moore Hoffman School for Secretaries, Reading.

Anna May last worked as an administrative assistant for Gilbert's, Reading, retiring in 1990.

She was very active in her community, serving on over two dozen boards. She was a former member of the Reading Civic Opera, as well as the Junior League of Reading.

Anna May also served as president of the Wyomissing PTA.

She was an avid reader and life long sports enthusiast.

Anna May was also a generous supporter for her children in all of their sports activites.

She is survived by her four children: John B., III, husband of Beverly Stevens, Oley; Garrett B., husband of Andrea Stevens, Chevy Chase, MD; Laurie E. Stevens, Reading and Mary Ellen, wife of William Breidegam, Shillington.

Also surviving are four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Nicole M. Stevens.

A Memorial Service will be Saturday, March 13th, at 12:30 pm in the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. A visitation will be held Saturday from 12:00 noon until time of services.

Burial will be in Charles Evans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Reading Public Library Foundation, (please memo, The Collection), 100 South 5th Street, Reading, PA 19602, or to the Reading Civic Opera Society: P.O. Box 186, Reading, PA 19603-0186.
