Anna M. Connors

Anna Connors, 92, formerly of Greenfields, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025, at the Highlands in Wyomissing, with her family by her side. She was the loving wife of the late James M. Connors for 65 years. Anna was born in Queens, NY, the youngest of four children of Jacob and Emma Albrecht, immigrants from Germany. She graduated from Jamaica High School and attended Hunter College in New York City. While in college, her grace and athleticism landed her a summer job that proved fortuitous: as a synchronized swimmer in the Aquashow at the site of the New York World's Fair in Flushing Meadows, NY. There, she met Jim, who was selling programs during college breaks. After courtship, marriage and several years of living in Boston and near New York City, they settled in Berks County, a community they grew to love.

Through the years, Anna was the "glue" of her family. She modeled patience, kindness and civility, and was revered for her warm laugh, perceptive insights and hugs. Anna was a gourmet cook and made every family guest feel welcome. She earned respect during neighborhood "Horse" games in the driveway with her patented two-handed set shot, and was an unwavering presence in the stands at her children's sports events. Anna was always stylish and fashionably dressed, and her home reflected her quiet good taste.

Anna was fortunate to have a close circle of female neighborhood friends, with whom she enjoyed competitive tennis matches and bridge games for many years. She loved word games– the challenge of the New York Times crossword puzzle or matching wits with Jim in Scrabble.

As the years went by and her children formed their own families, she remained their staunchest supporter and "first phone call" when needing counsel or a sympathetic ear. To Jim, she was not only a true love and best friend, but his favorite audience–laughing reliably at his jokes, or at least responding with an eye roll.

Anna's generosity of spirit extended to the community, and she poured her energies into helping others. She began volunteering with the United Way allocation teams, working to direct support to areas of greatest need. Her involvement led Jim to get involved as well, and together, they served as Berks County United Way campaign co-chairs in 1990. Anna also served for many years on the board at the Children's Home of Reading, where she championed the needs of vulnerable youth, and she tirelessly supported Helping Harvest, to fight food insecurity in the community.

Anna is survived by her children: Jan Dagenhart (Thomas); Lisa Crawford (Kevin); Michael Connors (Theresa); Peter Connors (Santina); ten grandchildren: Jeffrey, James, Jenna, Conor, Annie, Kevin, Meghan, Alexandria, Jacob and Benjamin; four step-grandchildren: Jonathan, Julia, TJ and Sean; nine great-grandchildren, and nine step-great-grandchildren. Anna is survived by her sister, Lee, and was preceded in death by her brothers Werner Albrecht and Dr. John Albrecht.

She leaves behind a lasting example of love, compassion, and quiet strength.
