Ann M. Marrella, 81, passed away in her West Lawn residence on August 2, 2021. She was surrounded by her loving family, as she had been for several months during her extended illness.
The love of her life and husband, Leonard E. "Gene" Marrella, passed away on October 14, 2001. From that day forward, Ann dedicated herself to keeping her family close and committed to each other. Seldom a week went by without a large family gathering around a dinner table, an outdoor setting, or in front of a live or televised sporting event.
Ann was born in West Reading, the daughter of the late Ernie and Ruth (Wenrich) Voelker. She graduated from West Reading High School in 1957. She was a lifelong member of St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church, and a regular attendee at Sunday Mass.
She enjoyed gardening and had a large variety of flowering plants and decorative greens throughout her property on Dalin Drive. She was an avid tennis player. She loved animals, especially her beagle "Buddy," with whom she spent many hours walking through the neighborhood, greeting residents all along the way. She also loved cooking, especially large meals for her children and grandchildren. She was ever-present and a great influence on her grandkids. Her kindness, sense of humor, sensitivity, and thoughtfulness will be missed by everyone who knew her.
Ann is survived by three children: Robert, David, and Lisa, married to Dan Wortman. She was predeceased by her beloved son Michael.. She leaves behind five grateful grandchildren: Vincent and Christopher Marrella: Amanda and Andrew Crawford; and Alex Wortman. She met her first great-grandson, River James Wortman, in February. She is also survived by brothers Tom and Bob Voelker, and her sister Debbie Reardon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 7, 2021, at 10:00 am at St. Ignatius Loyola Church, 2600 St. Albans Drive, Sinking Spring , PA, with entombment to follow at Gethsemane Mausoleum. A viewing will be held Friday, August 6, from 6-8 pm at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home in West Reading.
