Andrew N. Plazas, 28, was born in Brooklyn, New York, and lived in Queens. A proud son of Colombian heritage, he graduated from Reading High School and earned an associate degree in Liberal Arts. Andrew passed away surrounded by the love of his family on September 29, 2026.
He was a bright, honest soul who spoke his mind with a refreshing directness and a warmth that drew people to him. Andrew's laughter, fierce loyalty, and playful spirit touched everyone who knew him, and his kindness and humor left a lasting impression on family and friends alike.
Born with a love for stories and adventure, Andrew could spend hours recounting scenes from his favorite films. Jurassic Park captivated him, he would eagerly relive every memorable moment and he delighted in comparing life to The Karate Kid, often joking that he saw himself as Daniel LaRusso while calling his grandfather the Mr. Miyagi of the family. He carried that sense of wonder into everything he loved.
An avid gamer, Andrew grew up playing everything from the Nintendo DS to the PS5, always ready for a challenge and happy to share a new game or strategy. He loved Cracker Barrel meals and never missed an opportunity to celebrate with ice cream cake. He kept his body and mind sharp through boxing and mountain biking, pursuits that reflected his adventurous, determined spirit.
Andrew's heart belonged to animals. His love for my dog Sunny was boundless, "to infinity and beyond" and he also had a cat named Zorro, and would call him to sleep in his room. That gentle love for animals showed a tender side of Andrew that many cherished.
He is survived by his mother, Laura M. Plazas; his brother and sister Sergio R. Plazas; Emely Plazas; and his uncle, Roger Gabriel Plazas, along with many other family members and friends who loved him dearly. Andrew was a devoted son, brother, nephew, and friend whose generous heart and joyful spirit will be deeply missed.
A prayer service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6, at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading. The family will receive friends and relatives from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. Words of Remembrance will be shared beginning at 5:30 p.m.
