Andrew J. Leib

Andrew J. "Jay" Leib, Jr., 79,of the Reed Farm Settlement, Muhlenberg Twp. and formerly of Stoudt's Ferry Bridge Road, died of natural causes April 14 at 8:15 p.m. in his residence in Muhlenberg Township.

He was the husband of Phyllis P. (Platte) Leib; his wife of 49 years.

Born in Hazleton, Luzerne County, he was the son of the late Andrew J., Sr. and Kathryn I. (Slyker) Leib.

He was a graduate of Hazleton High School in 1945 and a 1949 graduate of Lafayette College, Easton, Northampton County were he received a Bachelor of Arts in Pre-Law.

Leib was employed by UGI Utilities, Inc. for 40 years. His career began with the former Lancaster County Gas Co. in 1949 as a Draftsman. He was thereafter promoted in succession to Assistant Dispatcher, Staff Assistant, Employee Relations Supervisor and Administrative Supervisor. In 1969 he was transferred to the then Reading Gas Division and named Construction and Maintenance Superintendent. In 1974, after UGI centralized its four operating gas divisions with headquarters in Reading, he became Manager of General Services, where he oversaw all Purchasing, Facities, Central Meter Shop, Storeroom, Fleet and Fleet Maintenance activities throughout the Gas Division areas in Harrisburg, Lancaster, Lehigh Valley and Reading. He held this position until his retirement in 1989.

He was a member of Alsace Lutheran Church, Hyde Park.

Leib was a life member of East Ends Athletic Association. He was a former member of the Pennsylvania Gas Association, Optimists Club of Reading, Purchasing Management Association of Reading, Lititz Chamber of Commerce and a former Director of the Lititz Lions Club.

He is also survived by a daughter, Jean Ann Leib, Mohnton and a son Andrew J. Leib, III of Muhlenberg Park. There are also three grandsons.

Services will be private. Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., Laureldale is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers contributions my be made to Berks Visiting Nurses Assoc./ Hospice 1170 Berkshire Blvd. Wyomissing, PA 19610.
