Anastasis A. Phyrillas, 83, of Exeter Township, died August 28, 2013 in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center.
He was the husband of Paraskevou (Loizou) Phyrillas, whom he married October 23, 1960.
Born in Limnia, Famagusta, Cyprus on December 17, 1929, he was a son of the late Antonis and Theodora Phyrillas.
Anastasis was a painting contractor and owner of A&A Painting Contractors, Reading, until his retirement.
He was a member of Sts Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, Reading, where he served as the lead chanter for the past 44 years.
Metropolitan Maximos bestowed the title of Protopsaltis to Anastasis in 1999 on behalf of the Greek Orthodox Diocese of Pittsburgh.
Anastasis was also recognized by the Church as Father of the Year in 2002.
He was a longtime member of the AHEPA and GAPA in Reading.
Anastasis is also survived by three sons: Tony A., husband of Chrysoula J. (Happas) Phyrillas of Mount Penn; Spyros A., husband of Margaret (Pappas) Phyrillas of Exeter Township and Lewis A., husband of Andrea (Soult) Phyrillas of Marion Township.
Other survivors include two brothers: Michael of Florida and Andreas of Cyprus and four sisters: Despina, Maria, Androula and Vefa, all of Cyprus.
There are also seven grandchildren: Maria T. Phyrillas of Exeter Township, Anastasis S. Phyrillas of Exeter Township, James A. Phyrillas of Mount Penn, Vasilis S. Phyrillas of Exeter Township, Patrick A. Phyrillas of Mount Penn, Theodore N. Phyrillas of Marion Township and Marina G. Phyrillas of Marion Township.
He was predeceased by a brother, Vasilis and three sisters: Cornelia, Eleni and Lukia.
Services will be held Tuesday, September 3rd at 11:00 am in Sts Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 1001 East Wyomissing Blvd., Reading, PA 19611. A viewing will be held Tuesday from 9:30 am - 11:00 am in the church. Burial will be in Charles Evans Cemetery.
