Amilcar Zapata

Amilcar "Mike" Zapata, 72, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Reading Hospital. Born in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Rafael and Antonia (Perez) Zapata. He worked as a truck driver for Ephrata Recycling.

Mike was a happy, optimistic, and hardworking man. When he set his mind to something, he worked hard to accomplish it. He enjoyed working on cars, playing guitar, reading the Bible, and watching Animal Planet. He loved animals and cared deeply for his cats, Mia and Kiwi. He also enjoyed cooking, grilling, and preparing healthy meals for himself and others.

Mike will be remembered for his determination, positive spirit, and the love he shared with those around him.

He is survived by his daughter, Nangelie Zapata of Reading; his siblings, Irma, Marlene, Heriberto, Carmen, Melvin, Luis, Nelson, William, Rafael, Oscar, Jorge, and Dixon Zapata; and his beloved cats, Mia and Kiwi.

Friends and relatives may gather on Friday, July 31, 2026, beginning at 5:00 p.m. at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, 739 Penn Ave., West Reading.

A second viewing will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home. Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Charles Evans Cemetery.

Amílcar "Mike" Zapata, de 72 años, falleció el sábado 25 de julio de 2026 en Reading Hospital. Nació en Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, y fue hijo de los fallecidos Rafael y Antonia (Pérez) Zapata. Trabajó como chofer de camión para Ephrata Recycling.

Mike fue un hombre alegre, optimista y muy trabajador. Cuando se proponía una meta, hacía todo lo posible por alcanzarla. Disfrutaba trabajar en automóviles, tocar la guitarra, leer la Biblia y ver Animal Planet. Amaba a los animales y sentía un cariño muy especial por sus gatos, Mia y Kiwi. También disfrutaba cocinar, hacer parrilladas y preparar comidas saludables para él y para quienes lo rodeaban.

Mike será recordado por su perseverancia, su actitud positiva y el cariño que brindó a su familia y a todos los que tuvieron la dicha de conocerlo.

Le sobreviven su hija, Nangelie Zapata, de Reading; sus hermanos Irma, Marlene, Heriberto, Carmen, Melvin, Luis, Nelson, William, Rafael, Oscar, Jorge y Dixon Zapata; así como sus queridos gatos, Mia y Kiwi.

Familiares y amigos podrán acompañarlo el viernes 31 de julio de 2026 a partir de las 5:00 p.m. en Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, ubicado en 739 Penn Ave., West Reading.

Un segundo velorio se llevará a cabo el sábado 1 de agosto de 2026, de 9:00 a 10:00 a.m., en Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home. El entierro se realizará a las 11:00 a.m. en Charles Evans Cemetery.
